Project on School Health in Central Cuba
Monday, July 6, 2015

Havana.- The central Cuban province of Sancti Spiritus will implement, starting in September, an international project of sex education based on gender, law and socio-cultural approaches.

The initiative, sponsored by the United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) and the Ministry of Education, aims to consolidate Cuba's school health program.

According to experts, adolescents and youths will be taught about responsibility and respect for sexual orientation and will learn about the consequences of teenage pregnancy.

In addition, professors will be trained on physical, psychical and social matters to turn schools into a place where families and students can receive information about sexuality.

The international program aims to eradicate negative behaviors and attitudes, so it covers all educational levels, and the training and upgrading of the pedagogical staff.
