Natural Attractions for Tourism in Colombia
Monday, June 29, 2015

Bogota.- Caño Cristales, also called the river of five colors in Colombia, attracts domestic and foreign tourists after visits were reestablished.

Local tourism officials pointed out that the site was closed to public to allow its endemic plants to recuperate, because the dry season damaged the vegetation.

Located in the mountain range of the department of Meta, the bottom of the river is inhabited by algae of different colors that make the water look red, yellow, green, blue and black.

Caño Cristales, which is 100 kilometers long and has several rapids, waterfalls and pools, can receive 200 visitors a day.

The water comes from the mountain range La Macarena, very near the old "tepuyes" or plateau-like mountains that can be found in both Colombia and neighboring Venezuela.
