Cuban Experts Work on New Atlas
Monday, June 29, 2015

Havana.- Cuban experts are working on a new atlas, with a view to updating the information on the physical, environmental and socio-economic reality of the Caribbean island.

The work is in charge of the Tropical Geography Institute, attached to the Ministry of Sciences, Technology and Environment, which was responsible for the National Atlas that was presented in 1970.

Experts already started working on the design and structure of the project, in addition to proposing the creation of groups of specialists to address various issues.

Originally planned in a digital format, the most advanced geographic information systems and the global positioning system (GPS) will be used in the preparation of Atlas.

In terms of content, it includes matter like protected areas, studies of hazards, vulnerability and risks, climate change, environmental pollution and land use in tourist areas.
