Matanzas Reports Low Birth Rate
Monday, May 25, 2015

Havana.- The western Cuban province of Matanzas has reported 2,391 births so far this year, accounting for 90 fewer births than during the same period in 2014.

In light of this decreasing trend, health authorities are promoting actions such as family planning and treatment to infertile couples to increase desired and successful pregnancies.

In addition, they are working in the rehabilitation of a provincial center to treat infertile couples, whose inauguration is scheduled for next year.

During the said period, Matanzas reported ten dead children under one year of age, accounting for an infant mortality rate of 4.18 deaths per every 1,000 live births.

Doctors are working to minimize reproductive risks before conception, among other factors that can affect people's quality of life.
