Genetics Benefits from Computer Sciences in Cuba
Monday, May 18, 2015

Havana.- The healthcare system in the central Cuban province of Sancti Spíritus, is benefiting from a computer program designed to provide genetic care to pregnant women and newborns.

The software, called SALGEN, is the only one of its kind in Cuba and has already been used to treat 30,000 pregnant women in the province.

According to experts, the software organizes and controls the primary-care actions that pregnant women receive, as well as childbirth and the evolution of the newborn.

In addition, it allows doctors at any polyclinic or hospital to learn the medical criteria about the patients when they are referred to another medical center, as there is communication on line because SALGEN is connected to the Infomed network.

The pregnancies verified by ultrasound screening are digitalized in the program, which also follows up on all genetic tests during pregnancy.
