Cuban Rower Angel Fournier Wins World Cup's First Phase
Monday, May 18, 2015

Havana.- Angel Fournier, one of Cuba's best rowers, won the title in the first phase of the World Cup of Rowing held in Slovenia.

Fournier clocked 6:49.740 minutes in the single open-weight race, and was followed by Croatia's Damir Martin (6:50.990) and Switzerland's Markus Kessler (7:03:740).

This victory ratified that Fournier is in conditions to win the gold medal at the Pan-American Games in Toronto, Canada, in July.

In addition to the continental title, Fournier won the silver and bronze medals in the world championships in Chungju, South Korea, and Amsterdam, the Netherlands, respectively, and the bronze medals in the world cups in France and Switzerland.

At the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico, in 2014, Fournier won three gold medals.
