French Cinema in Havana
Monday, May 4, 2015

Havana.- The Cuban capital will host the 18th French Film Festival this month, during which internationally-renowned motion pictures from that European country will be exhibited.

According to organizers, the program will include "Timbuktu", which won several Caesar Awards in 2014 and was nominated as the Best Film in foreign language for the 2015 Oscar Awards.

At least 26 French movies will be screened in Havana, including 15 feature-length films, four documentaries, a cartoon and a collection of 16 animated short films.

A special tribute will be paid to moviemaker Costa Gavras, who is the incumbent director of the French Cinematheque and whose latest film, "The Capital", will be exhibited.

Four classic French films will be exhibited in their restored versions, including "The Great Illusion" (1937), "Children of Paradise" (1945), "Zero in Behavior" (1933) and "Golden Helmet" (1952).
