Alternative Energy in Central Cuba
Monday, April 20, 2015

Havana.- The central Cuban province of Sancti Spíritus will benefit from the services of a solar photovoltaic park, as part of actions to boost the use of alternative energy.

The works will start in 2015 and will consist of building 525 modules of solar panels that can generate one megawatt at the time of the day when the incidence of the Sun is more intense.

According to experts, the park will be built in Sierpe Vieja, in the municipality of La Sierpe, and will have an area of more than two hectares.

After starting up operations and being synchronized with the national power grid, 1,646 tons of carbon dioxide will not be released to the environment every year.

The solar panels that will be used are guaranteed for at least 20 years, so the initial investment, estimated at 1.7 million pesos, will be recovered.
