Scientific Support for Cuban Agriculture
Monday, April 13, 2015

Havana.- Cuba's agricultural sector will be supported by a new tobacco research station, the third of its kind in the country.

The center, located in central Villa Clara province, will support producers from that province and Cienfuegos, as part of actions to increase yield.

More than 100 farmers from the two provinces will turn their farms into demonstrative areas where other workers can learn about the breakthroughs in the tobacco sector.

Soil diagnosis, the appropriate selection of tobacco varieties and the creation of high-quality seedbeds are the main tasks to be learned to increase yield.

Villa Clara has more than 2,250 tobacco growers who work in 123 credit and service cooperatives and eight agricultural cooperatives.
