Preventive Healthcare Actions in Santiago de Cuba
Monday, March 30, 2015

Havana.- Healthcare authorities in eastern Santiago de Cuba are taking actions to prevent the transmission of HIV-AIDS and congenital syphilis from mother to child.

According to experts, authorities are promoting educational activities at the community level, following up on risk groups and treating patients.

The diagnosis allows detecting the people who are more vulnerable to be infected, according to risk conditions such as domestic violence and the incorporation of dysfunctional families into society.

In addition, pregnant women undergo complementary tests, including tests for HIV and syphilis, among other procedures.

Other strategies include anonymous advisory services and educational programs at school on the risks to contract sexually-transmitted diseases.
