Cuba's Healthcare System Promotes Efficiency |

Havana.- Cuban experts are working on the design of management models to use resources efficiently in the national healthcare system in order to guarantee the quality of life of people.
In the central provinces of Villa Clara and Cienfuegos, the experts created a cost management model for patients and diseases that provides precise information in function of control, planning and decision making.
In that regard, the research takes into account the protocols of care followed for each individual, and allows calculating expenses according to the care provided at the hospital.
That mechanism eliminates the limitations of the unitary cost system used in medical institutions, which shows variations according to the period of hospitalization, medications and tests.
Health care in Cuba is free, but it is necessary to know the costs for each patient and the characteristics of each disease.
