Stem Cell Therapy in Cuba's Healthcare Agenda |

Havana.- Stem cell therapy is gaining ground in Cuba's healthcare system, where more than 13,000 patients have been treated with that method.
According to experts from the Hematology and Immunology Institute, regenerative medicine is one of the main breakthroughs over the past few years to treat several diseases.
Stem cell therapy, the use of bioactive proteins and in vivo tissue engineering have been incorporated into research projects in Cuba.
In this regard, amputation in patients suffering from serious arterial insufficiency in the lower limbs has been prevented in 58-80 percent of cases.
In orthopedics and trauma, there have been promising results to treat bone cysts, complex bone fractures, pseudo-arthritis, aseptic necrosis of the hip and degenerative lesions in the joints.
The procedure is used in orthopedics, angiology, burns, the cicatrization of skin ulcers and as eye drops to treat cornea lesion and dry eyes.
