Cuban Tourist Airport Reports Increase in Operations

Havana.- The international airport of Cayo Coco, in Jardines del Rey (King's Gardens), has reported a sustained increase in operations to meet the growing demand from foreign vacationers.

According to authorities, the airport handles 41 flights a week, 95 percent of which come from Canada, in addition to the United Kingdom, Argentina and Italy.

The Cayo Coco airport handled 400,000 tourists in 2014, and 50 flights with an average of 8,000 tourists a day are expected in May.

According to statistics from the aeronautic sector, the Cayo Coco is the fifth major airport in the country in terms of the number of passengers, only preceded by those in Havana, Varadero, Santa Clara and Holguín.

The main companies using the airport are Thomas Cook, (United Kingdom), Air Transat, Canjet, Wesjet, Air Canada and SunWing (Canada), Blue Panorama (Italy) and Cubana de Aviación.
