Prevention of Leprosy in Eastern Cuba |

Havana.- The healthcare system in eastern Santiago de Cuba province promotes actions to prevent and fight leprosy.
The strategy consists of activities, tests and promotion at the community level to inform people about the characteristics of the disease.
According to experts, people should know that leprosy is curable and its early diagnosis prevents deformities and disabilities.
The prevention campaigns involve dermatologists, nurses, professors from the University of Medical Sciences and epidemiologists.
Patients are treated with poly-chemotherapy, which is also administered to all their contacts at home and outside.
