Cuban Health Technology Benefits Latin America
Monday, December 22, 2014

Havana.- The Cuban-made Ultramicroanalytical System (SUMA), which has been present in Latin America for two decades, has contributed to testing 12 million children.

According to experts from the Immune Essay Center, more than 5,000 diseases have been detected during that period.

Among the diseases detected by the SUMA equipment are congenital hyperthyroidism, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, biotin deficiency, phenylketonuria and galactosemia.

The SUMA technology consists of 33 kits to detect 19 diseases, and it is used for blood certification, epidemiological surveillance and prenatal and neonatal tests.

Cuba's SUMA network consists of 175 laboratories, which guarantee neonatal tests nationwide, in addition to other tests.
