Cuban Swimmer to Compete for Title at Regional Event
Monday, November 24, 2014

Havana.- Cuban swimmer Hanser García, Pan-American runner-up in the 100-meter freestyle competition, expects to win the gold medal in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, Mexico.

According to experts, García finished seventh in that distance in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where he set a national record of 48.04 seconds.

García's main rivals will be Albert Subirats and Crox Acuña, from Venezuela, who have had excellent results over the past few months.

During the season, the Cuban swimmer participated in the phases of the Mare Nostrum circuit in Barcelona, where he clocked 49 seconds, and in Canet, France, with 48.77 seconds.

Cuban swimmers have won 176 medals at Central American and Caribbean games, placing fourth among 21 countries, although they are second in terms of gold medals with 66.
