Cuban Female Cyclists Excel at World Cup

Havana.- The Cuban women's team finished seventh by countries in the first phase of the World Cycling Cup held in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The Cuban team won one silver medal and one bronze medal that went to Marlies Mejías and Lisandra Guerra, respectively.

Mejías finished second in the omnium trial with 183 points, only preceded by Belgian cyclist Jolien D'Hoore (193), while Malgorzata Wojtyra, from Poland, finished third.

For her part, Guerra won the gold medal in the speed contest after defeating Dutch cyclist Elis Ligtlee, but she lost to Russia's Anastasiia Voinova in the gold medal contest.

In individual persecution, the quartet made up of Arlenis Sierra, Yumari González, Yudelmis Domínguez and Mejías finished sixth among 20 teams.
