Study of Intangible Cultural Heritage Promoted in Cuba
Monday, October 27, 2014

Havana.- The city of Camagüey, the capital of the eastern Cuban province of the same name, has a chair that specializes in studying and preserving the intangible cultural heritage.

The department, the first of its kind in the country was named after Cuban poetess Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda.

According to experts, the institution carries out research works to restore and preserve the intangible assets that make up region's identity.

The first studies will focus on intellectuals such as Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda, traditional cuisine and the peculiarities of dance and music.

The center also benefits from its location, as the city, founded on February 2, 1514, holds Cuba's largest historic heart, whose oldest segment was designated Humankind's Cultural Heritage Site.
