Tribute to Cuban Musician in Eastern Cuba
Monday, October 27, 2014

Havana.- The Wax Museum in the city of Bayamo, the only one of its kind in Cuba, unveiled a life-size sculpture of the late Cuban musician Juan Formell.

The sculpture, made by Rafael Barrios and his sons Leander and Rafael, who are self-taught sculptors, portrays the artist in a standing position in front of a microphone.

The expert noted that in order to create the sculpture, they used 70 pounds of wax and it took them nearly two months to complete the artwork.

The Wax Museum also exhibits sculptures of world-renowned Cuban musicians such as Benny Moré, Francisco Repilado (Compay Segundo) and Rita Montaner.

Other sculptures represent the musicians Ignacio Villa, also known as Bola de Nieve, Carlos Puebla and Sindo Garay, among others.
