Good Impact of Cuban Medication Highlighted
Monday, October 20, 2014

Havana.- The Cuban-made recombinant human erythropoietin, developed 17 years ago at the Molecular Immunology Center, has gained ground on the international market.

The medication has more than 50 sanitary licenses in some 25 countries, including Brazil's healthcare system.

In Brazil, the drug is used to treat the anemia related to chronic kidney failure, thus improving the quality of life of patients under dialysis treatments.

At present, the drug is produced at a plant that meets the demands from Cuba and Brazil. The latter consumes nearly 14,000 liters of that medication.

In a short term, Brazil will start producing recombinant human erythropoietin at a plant that is under construction.
