New Drug Benefits More than 30,000 Cuban Patients
Monday, September 29, 2014

Havana.- The drug Heberprot-P, developed in Cuba to treat diabetic foot ulcers, has benefited more than 30,000 Cuban patients.

Experts noted that the product is the only one of its kind in the world to minimize the risk of amputation due to complex lesions.

It is worth mentioning that Cuba has reduced the risk of amputation due to diabetic foot ulcers by 78 percent, as a result of a nationwide program to administer Heberprot-P, which was developed at the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center (CIGB) in conjunction with other Cuban institutions.

The formula, whose active principle is recombinant human growth factor, is injected on the lesion and has proved to be highly effective.
