Cuban Company to Make New Type of Batteries
Monday, September 29, 2014

Havana.- The battery plant in the eastern city of Manzanillo, the only one of its kind in Cuba, will make a new type of batteries using lead and calcium plates.

According to experts, this option reduces environmental pollution by excluding antimony from the plates' composition.

The lead-calcium plates have a life expectancy of up to five years or 1,200 discharge cycles at 30 percent.

The first shipment of the necessary technology is expected to arrive in Cuba this year to produce the batteries.

Regarding this year's plan, the factory will produce 125,000 batteries mainly for the domestic market, in addition to meeting the demand from the sugar industry.
