Cuba Wins Three Medals at World Basque Pelota Championship
Monday, September 29, 2014

Havana.- Cuba won three medals (one of each color) at the 17th World Basque Pelota Championship in Toluca, Mexico.

The Cuban delegation won the gold medal in the short-paddle, 36-meter fronton modality, thanks to the excellent performances of Anderson Jardínez and Frendy Fernández.

The silver medal went to Camilo Castillo and Iván Torres in the xare modality. They lost 0-2 (10-15, 4-15) to the French duet of Laberdesque and Driolet.

The bronze medalists were Lisandra Lima and Yasmary Medina in the women's 30-meter frontenis modality, in which they beat the French duet of Coyos and Simao by 2-1 (9-15, 15-11 and 10-9).

That way, the Cuban pelotaris improved their performance four years ago in Pau, where they won bronze medals in xare, short-paddle and women's frontenis.
