Successful Use of Cell Therapy in Cuba
Monday, September 15, 2014

Havana.- Cuba's healthcare system promotes the use of cell therapy, which has benefited more than 6,195 patients until the first semester of 2014.

According to experts in hematology and immunology, that method has been used in all 14 Cuban provinces since February 2004.

Most cases were treated in angiology, and orthopedics and traumatology services, totaling 3,126 and 2,747 cases, respectively.

In that regard, the experts said that promising results have been achieved in treating bone cysts, complex bone fractures, pseudoarthritis, aseptic hip necrosis and degenerative articular lesions.

Other diseases treated with cell therapy are periodontitis, paraplegias due to traumas to the spinal cord, myocardial infarction and chronic neurological lesions associated to cerebral infarction.

By provinces, Havana has reported the largest number of patients in the country, with 2,257, followed by Pinar del Río (1,239) and Artemisa (1,035).
