Cienfuegos Plans to Improve Sugar Quality
Monday, September 15, 2014

Havana.- Authorities in the central Cuban province of Cienfuegos plan to improve the quality of sugar produced in the region's sugar mills.

Experts are creating the appropriate hygienic conditions in the areas where sugar is produced and stored in order to prevent contamination.

Sugar quality is mainly measured by the content of sucrose, granulometry, color, ferromagnetic particles and humidity, based on the demands from the international market.

It is worth mentioning that four local sugar mills have maintained an indicator of more than 99 percent in quality over the past few harvests.

Sugar, which is obtained from sugarcane, is highly demanded worldwide and its consumption per capita is estimated at 24 kilograms.
