Health Authorities Rule Presence of Ebola in Cuba
Monday, August 25, 2014

Havana.- Cuban health authorities ruled out the presence of Ebola cases in the country, a disease that has been reported in some African nations.

Epidemiology officials noted that the disease has a mortality rate of 90 percent, and 1,711 cases have been reported in Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leona, Liberia and Nigeria.

The spreading of Ebola in Western Africa is the result of large circulation through borders, problems to identify and follow up on the contacts, and bad practices to prevent and control the infection.

In Cuba's case, measures have been taken to prevent the entry of the disease at border checkpoints.

The disease is transmitted from person to person through direct contact with body fluids, including blood, sweat, mother's milk and semen, among others.
