Marine Archeological Finding in Western Cuba
Monday, August 25, 2014

Havana.- Cuban experts reported a major archeological finding in the zone of Puerto Esperanza, in western Pinar del Río province.

They found 60 artifacts, which are supposed to come from a ship that sank in the 17th or 18th centuries, with at least 15 different artifacts for defense.

The experts pointed out that they had found a large number of firearms, cannon balls, sabers and machetes, among other artifacts used in ships at the time, including nails, bolts, fixators, kitchen utensils and a trident.

The experts are working on establishing the exact location of the finding and determining the existence of other historic elements.

There are several sunken ships off Pinar del Río's shores. The ships capsized due to either accidents or as a result of attacks by corsairs and pirates.
