More Births Reported in Western Cuban Province
Monday, August 18, 2014

Havana.- The western Cuban province of Matanzas has reported 4,133 births from January to date, 130 births more than during the same period last year.

Experts with the Mother-Child Program pointed out that this growing trend resulted from several factors, including family planning consults and medical care to infertile couples.

The province also reported no mother's deaths and an infant mortality rate of 4.6 deaths per every 1,000 live births, with 19 deaths of children under one year of age.

In addition, measures were taken to prevent infections in mothers and children associated to medical care, which implies the use of antiseptic substances.

In the specific cases of the municipalities of Perico, Pedro Betancourt and Limonar, the infant mortality rate was zero.
