Conditions of Senior Citizens Improved in Holguín
Monday, August 18, 2014

Havana.- The healthcare system in the eastern Cuban province of Holguín has improved conditions to provide medical attention to senior citizens.

Actions include the remodeling and opening of elderly homes and elderly houses to improve their quality of life.

Investments also include the inauguration of two elderly homes, one in Holguín and one in Mayarí, in 2015, as well as an elderly house.

In addition, community initiatives such as elderly clubs and activities at Computer's Joven Clubs are under way to foster physical exercises and cultural upgrading.

The program to assist senior citizens in Cuba was created in 1974 and covers community, institution and hospital care to meet the psychological, medical and socio-economic needs of the elderly.
