Road Communication in Escambray Improved
Monday, August 18, 2014

Havana.- Specialized brigades completed the construction of the bridge over the Agabama River, thus improving road communication in the Escambray zone.

According to experts, the new structure was designed by Empresa de Proyectos e Ingeniería de la Agricultura at a cost of 360,000 pesos, and it can resist the swelling of the river up to eight meters.

More than seven tons of steel and the required levels of concrete were used in the construction of the bridge to guarantee the necessary strength.

The former bridge, built in the 1950s, collapsed in 2012, when the river burst its banks.

The 118-kilometer-long Agabama River, considered one of the most important streams in central Cuba, has its source in the mountains of Santa Clara and goes through the Escambray mountain range.
