Sculpture of Emblematic Colombian Intellectual at Cuban Wax Museum
Monday, August 18, 2014

Havana.- The Wax Museum of Bayamo, in eastern Cuba and the only one of its kind in the country, is exhibiting a sculpture of Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez.

The sculpture that represents the 1982 Literature Nobel Prize winner was unveiled by Alquimia Peña, general director of the New Latin American Cinema Foundation.

The life-size polychrome sculpture weighs some 75 pounds, like all the others in the museum, created by the Barrios family in the town of Guisa.

The García Márquez family donated, through the foundation named after the Colombian author, clothes and the white shoes the outstanding intellectual used to wear.

Inaugurated in 2004, the museum exhibits sculptures of Cuban national heroes José Martí and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, and musicians such as Sindo Garay, Compay Segundo, Benny Moré, Bola de Nieve, Carlos Puebla and Polo Montañéz.
