Cuban Authorities Assess New Policies for Maritime Transportation
Monday, July 21, 2014

Havana.- Cuban authorities are working on the design of new policies to promote the development of sea, river and lake transportation.

According to experts, the adjustments will affect shipyards, the charter of ships, cabotage, ports and the hiring of crews.

These measures are part of a strategy to recover and reorder maritime transportation, in addition to consolidating the country's merchant fleet.

Other actions include the decontamination of the bay of Havana to make better use of its facilities for tourism, taking into account the interests of Cuban and foreign tourists.

The new changes are part of the update of Cuba's economic model and are aimed at taking advantage of the country's potentialities in production and services.
