Cuba Works to Increase Bee Honey Production
Monday, July 21, 2014

Havana.- Cuba's apicultural sector is working to increase honey production in 2014, when it plans to collect 7,800 tons.

According to experts from the company Apicuba, that volume accounts for a 30-percent increase compared to 2013. In the first semester of this year, the company fulfilled its production plan at 116 percent.

Part of Cuban bee honey is sold on the international market, mainly in Europe, where Germany is one of the main buyers.

Apicuba will start commercializing new products as of August, including mixtures of honey with pollen, jelly and propolis.

In addition, long-term plans include the possibility of producing 10,000 tons of bee honey between 2017 and 2020.
