Cuban Health Care System Improves Geriatric Care
Monday, April 21, 2014

Havana.- The Cuban health system works to improve geriatric services in the country in order to meet the needs of the increasing number of people older than 60 years.

According to specialists, the current population in the abovementioned age category is 18.3 percent of the total population, hence the importance of such activity.

Currently, efforts are being focused on the creation of new elderly homes and the fitting out of geriatric services in every Cuban hospital.

Cuba is one of the most aged countries in the region with more than two million elderly persons, including 1,500 above age 100, a fact which poses a commitment for the health care system.

The abovementioned behavior is influenced by the population´s life expectancy which is similar to the one in developed countries.
