Presence of Cuban Honey Increases in Foreign Markets
Monday, April 14, 2014

Havana.- The Central Cuban province of Cienfuegos plans to close 2014 with a production of 550 tons of high-quality honey in order to meet foreign market demands.

According to experts, the province produced 537 tons with exportable quality to markets in Europe, the main buyer, last year.

The abovementioned quality standards include a humidity rate below 19.5 percent and the product must not have any kind of impurity.

Honey producers have spinners, buckets, strainers and tables made of stainless steel since honey behaves as a kind of sponge and if put through any other kind of container it absorbs iron, sulfate, grease and other contaminating elements.

Likewise, specialists reminded that the price of a ton of honey ranges from 3,000 to 3,300 euros in the European market.
