Cuban Health System Warns against Excessive Nutrition
Monday, November 26, 2012

Havana.- Excessive nutrition affects the Cuban population’s health, taking into account that 45 percent suffer from overweight conditions due to incorrect eating habits.

Specialists from the National Institute of Food Nutrition and Hygiene mentioned risk factors such as overweight conditions and obesity which favor the emergence of non-transmissible diseases.

Diabetes, hypertension and cancer, the latter being the first cause of death in 11 Cuban provinces, were mentioned among the diseases associated with inadequate diets.

Experts made emphasis on the risks of diabetes as one of the main consequences of obesity.

According to the World Health Organization, more than 347 million people suffer from diabetes, one of the most widely spread diseases in the world.
