Havana.- The Cuban women's water polo team is training to compete in the Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2011.
The Cuban players expect to remain in the continental elite of that sport, considering that they qualified directly for the Pan-American Games in the Central American and Caribbean region.
In the continental games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2007, the Cuban team won the bronze medal, after losing to the United States and tying 7-7 against Canada. They beat the Brazilian team 6-5.
On this occasion, Cuba's toughest rivals will be Puerto Rico, Mexico and Venezuela.
The Cuban team is also seeking to qualify for the World Championship in Shanghai, China, in July 2011, a goal they could achieve in a qualifying event in Brazil.
