Forty-Two Cuban Athletes at Youth Olympics

Havana.- Forty-two Cuban athletes will compete in the 1st Youth Olympic Games, set from August 14-26 in Singapore.

Cuba will compete in men's volleyball, diving, boxing, canoeing, fencing, artistic gymnastics, modern pentathlon, rowing, sailing, tae kwon do, weightlifting, wrestling, judo, and track and field.

Some 3,500 athletes from 170 countries will compete in 184 contests in 26 sports during the Youth Olympics.

The Cuban men's volleyball team will play in pool B, along with Argentina and Iran. Pool A is composed by Serbia, Russia and the Republic of Congo.

The Cuban delegation also includes Lismania Muñoz (javelin), Dayrina Sotolongo (1,000-meter race), Lisneidy Veitía (100-meter race), Yunier Durán (long jump) and Radamé Fabor (triple jump).
