Costa Rica Reports Decreased Tourist Arrivals in 2009
Monday, March 8, 2010

San José.- Tourist arrivals in Costa Rica decreased 8 percent last year, compared to 2008.

According to sources from the tourism sector, 1.92 million foreign tourists visited the country in 2009, a decreasing trend caused by the negative effects of the international economic crisis.

Authorities predicted that tourist arrivals might increase 3-5 percent in 2010, as a result of new air routes and advertising campaigns.

In that regard, the company KLM-Air France began operating five new flights from this capital to Amsterdam (Holland) in January.

In addition, negotiations are underway with other airlines, including Aeromexico, Jetairfly (Belgium), Air China and WetJet (Canada).
