Processed Potato for Cuba's Hard-Currency Market
Monday, June 29, 2009

Havana.- The company Combinado Industrial de Cítricos de Ciego de Avila, in eastern Cuba, is producing frozen prefried potato for the tourist and the hard-currency domestic markets.

The company has contributed to reducing imports and can meet Cuba's domestic demand for that product.

Large amounts of money were spent to import prefried potato, as 21 Cuban companies bought that product in Europe or Canada to supply the tourist market.

The potato can be kept in 1-2.5-kg plastic bags for up to two years.

The prefried potato and other food processed at Combinado de Cítricos de Ciego de Avila have been certified with the 2000 ISO-9001 international quality standard.

The plant also processes juices, nectars, pulps and marmalade using orange, grapefruit, guava, papaya, banana and tomato, among other raw materials.
