Cuban Judokas to Compete in Venezuela

Havana.- Cuban judokas will compete in the traditional Simon Bolivar Cup, scheduled for early June on Margarita Island, Venezuela.

Experts pointed out that the Cuban 16-strong delegation is headed by Beijing Olympic Medalists Yanet Bermoy, Idalis Ortiz, Oscar Braison and Yordanis Arencibia, although the latter will only attend a ceremony in his honor.

The women's team includes Zaylin Lantarón and Dayaris Mestre (48 kg), Yurisleidis Lupetey and Maricet Espinosa (57 kg), Yaritza Abel (63 kg), Onix Cortés and Yanisleidis Borrego (70 kg), Kaliema Antomarchi (78 kg) and Heidi Abreu (+78 kg).

The men's delegation is made up of Janiel Peña (66 kg), Rubert Martínez (73 kg) and Oreidis Despaigne (100 kg).

Some 200 judokas from ten countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Cuba, Chile, the United States, Guatemala, Mexico and Peru, in addition to Venezuela, are expected to participate in the Simon Bolivar Cup.
