Cuban Judokas Win Continental Championship

Havana.- Cuban judokas won the Pan-American Judo Championship held in Argentina, where the eight members of the Caribbean Island's delegation gave outstanding performances.

Cuba won seven gold, one silver and two bronze medals, and was followed Brazil (3-7-4) and Argentina (3-2-4).

In the women's category, the Cuban judokas won five gold medals, and were followed by Colombia (2-3-0), Argentina (2-0-1), Brazil (0-4-3) and Mexico (0-1-3), in that order.

In the men's contest, the Cuban delegation finished second (2-1-2) after Brazil (3-3-1) and before Canada and Argentina (1-2-3), the United States (1-0-4) and Venezuela (1-0-0).

Cuba's most outstanding judokas were Idalis Ortiz, who won two gold medals in the +78-kg division and the freestyle category, and Oscar Braison, winner of a title and a silver medal in the +100-kg division and the freestyle category, respectively.
