Cuban Judokas to Compete in Argentina
Monday, March 16, 2009

Havana.- Eight Cuban judokas will compete in the Pan-American Championship scheduled for late March in Argentina.

Cuban experts said that the female judokas who will participate in the tournament are Yanet Bermpy (52 kg) and Idalis Ortiz (+78 kg), both medalists at the Beijing Olympic Games last year, and Yurisleidis Lupetey (57 kg) and Kaliema Antomarchi (78 kg), who got good results during a recent European tour.

The tournament grants 180 points to the winner in each division for the world ranking, which takes into account each competitor's best five results in a year to qualify for 2012 London Olympics.

The Cuban male judokas who will compete in Argentina are Yordanis Arencibia (66 kg) and Oscar Braison (+100 kg), both bronze medalists at the Beijing Olympics, and Yasmani Piker (60 kg) and Oreidis Despaigne (100 kg).
