Cuba: Recreation along Havana's Coast

The Cuban capital, bathed by the Straights of Florida, is a major tourist destination in the Caribbean Island, offering a wide range of attractions, including beaches and cultural options.

Rich in traditions, architectural styles, culture and Caribbean climate, Havana also has many tourist facilities that are directly linked to the environment.

Tourists are strongly attracted to the Malecón (seaside drive), one of the main avenues in the city, where waves break along a wall that runs parallel to the coast.

The Malecón is a five-kilometer avenue that runs from the Bay of Havana – in the east – to the Almendares River – in the west.

Near the Malecón is the Havana Riviera Hotel, which was inaugurated several decades ago.

The 350-room hotel offers excellent amenities, many of which benefit from a breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea.

The Riviera, which is close to the Meliá Cohíba Hotel, provides entertainment options such as the legendary Copa Room Cabaret, where tourists can enjoy good Cuban music.

Those who love good cuisine can have a great time at the 1830 Restaurant, where beautiful colonial railings, stained-glass windows and wooden balconies welcome customers.

The 200-seat restaurant has several halls that can be turned into private rooms on special occasions.

The Green, Blue and Imperial halls are on the second floor. The eight-seat Imperial hall is the smallest room at the restaurant and is dedicated to protocol activities, special lunches and business dinners.

The Red, Tropical and Gold halls are on the ground floor, as well as a sitting room called Violeta, which is complemented by the Bar Colonial in the former library of the mansion.

Overlooking the Malecón seafront drive is the Hotel Nacional de Cuba, which was declared a National Monument.

The hotel, which ranks among the top ten Palace Hotels in the world, was the only five-star hotel in the Caribbean region from the 1930s to the 1950s.

The greatest attraction of the establishment is history, as prominent personages have visited it over the past few decades, including political leaders, athletes, artists and ill-famous US gangsters.
